Abstract

Raise in esthetic outlook from patients has lead to search for an ultimate esthetic material for restoring teeth and procedures for using them. Composite resin proved to be the excellent esthetic substance and was customized with respect to the resin matrix and filler, the surface superiority is an key factor in determining the success of composite restorations inadequately polished surfaces contribute to staining, plaque accumulation, gingival irritation and recurrent caries. Successful finishing and polishing of dental restorations not only result in optimal aesthetics but also offer satisfactory oral health of soft tissues and marginal integrity of the restorative interface. This review brings forward some newly published, outcomebased information concerning the relevance and importance of an effective knowledge of finishing and polishing techniques and materials.
